Unremembered Things

A proposal for an exhibition and book of photographs of abandoned Welsh homes  and accompanying poems.

While recently in Pembrokeshire, Wales, I happened upon a number of empty houses, replete with the previous tenants' possessions, inexplicably abandoned and left to slowly rot and decay.  I became fascinated with these mysterious, ghostly dwellings, and began to photograph some of the rooms and their contents.  As can be seen, the results are eerie, disturbing, sad and haunting, with glimpses into the lives and personalities of the former occupants of these houses revealed through the décor and their belongings.  I am interested in both exhibiting some of these photos, and also publishing them in a book.  Ideally the photos would be accompanied by poems from a number of Welsh poets both past and contemporary that I feel reflect the mood of a particular photo, or might relate to a specific object in a photograph, or are somehow suggestive of something that may have taken place in one of the rooms.  The title of the book and exhibition would be Unremembered Things, from a poem by the Welsh poet Waldo Williams.  Anyone interested in staging an exhibition or publishing the book can contact me at bhpaley@aol.com.
